Making Soy Yogurt with Custom Probiotics Starter

In the past I have been using a small amount of goat yogurt to start batches of soy yogurt which isn't an ideal solution for anyone who is intolerant of milk products. My local supplier stopped selling plain goat yogurt so I had to find another source of starter. I contacted Mr. Harry Bronozian at Custom Probiotics and he kindly provided a sample to see if it would make soy yogurt. The answer is a big yes - delicious soy yogurt with no dairy of any kind.

The following is my recipe:

1 quart Pacific Organic Soy Milk - Original Unsweetened (my yogurt maker only makes 1 qt.)

1/2 measure of Custom Probiotics yogurt starter.

The soy milk doesn't need to be sterilized when it comes out of the carton so I skip that step and use it at room temperature ~70F.

Pour about 1/2 - 1 cup of soy milk into a 1 quart measuring cup - mix the starter in well then stir in the remaining soy milk. Pour into yogurt maker and wait 9 to 12 hours.

With my yogurt maker 9 hours produces a smooth, thick, mild and tasty yogurt that we use for sour cream substite, etc. as well as eating plain.


Using Custom Probiotics yogurt starter is also very convenient, we used to keep yogurt starter going which meant making yogurt when we needed to rather than when we wanted to. Now we can go to the freezer and grab the starter.

First, I would like to thank Harry for his dedication to providing such fantastic probiotics and yogurt starter.

I started with five abdominal surgeries in my early twenties and from there on my stomach and overall health have suffered tremendously.  I had numerous  illnesses after the surgeries that eventually led to deficient antibody count diagnosis, IgG-2subclasses and IgA.  I was on antibiotics, very strong ones and for many years due to the chronic issues with these problems. My health just spiraled out of control regardless of the measures I took to help my body.  I'vetried many many options from natural, alternative to mainstream to no avail. I've had a clean organic diet and avoidedchemical laden personal products for too many years to count.  I couldn't get a grip on how to fix anything despite eating probiotics by the handfuls, quart of organic plain yogurt every few days, kefir, etc etc.  Some days I would be up to twenty probiotic capsules that were suppose to be the best and still just making a small dent, suffering still but to a lesser degree.  I finally started to make my own yogurt and I felt somewhat better but I knew I wasn't reaping the full benefits of probiotics and yogurt so I did some surfing on the internet and found Custom Probiotics. 

What I wasn't prepared for was the awesome results I received after using these products for a few weeks. I was making progress for once in my long 20 year journey to health.  I have been using these products now for about six weeks and I wanted to wait to see what a longer term effect would bring and I can tell you that this is better than I had expected, which tells me my body is rebuilding and this is just the tip of the iceberg, there are better days ahead.  I have put on  weight, my body is utilizing the nutrition, I'm not malnourished and somy body can perform the way my Creator intended.

The yogurt is fabulous, I can't explain to you what this yogurt tastes like other than it is light, tangy and clean tasting without that heavy pungent taste you sometimes find with organic yogurts on the market.  I put a scoop of the Custom Probiotic blend into my yogurt two times a day. My energy is more balanced, my stomach feels so much better and I can eat more foods without suffering from eating and I sleep so restful.   Also, I have suffered about 14 years of chronic ear and sinus infections, to which the doctors kept prescribing more antibiotics and I would only get worse, now since I've started making my yogurt with Harry's starter and using the Custom Blend powder, the ears and sinuses have completely cleared up.

I agree with another poster, do not waste your money on all of those other sub-optimal products, Custom Probiotics will give you all that you need to  help you on your way to re-building health and well being.

I have been taking the Custom Probiotic blend of 6 cultures now for six weeks. The results I have received are amazing! I just wanted to send this note to you to thank you for such a high quality product. I have tried many probiotics in the past and believe that your product is truly the BEST!

I spent the past year of my life very ill. I've had severe Candida and Leaky Gut along with Adrenal exhaustion. I started out taking 8 heaping adult scoops of the 6 culture blend daily. Hi Harry,

After suffering with severe diarrhea for the month of December I was finally diagnosed with C. Difficile on Jan. 1 /08. My doctor could not believe that I had developed this disease since I was in excellent health, had not visited a hospital or a senior's home, nor had I been out of the country. I was immediately prescribed Vancomycin which I took for 10 days and appeared to be cured and then Feb. 1 the C. Difficile returned as strong or stronger than ever so I was back to another go of the Vancomycin however this time even with the antibiotic I got worse with each day. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing 6 strain probiotic blend.

I ordered your probiotics for my 4 year old son. He has suffered from severe eczema and a multitude of allergies since he was 2 months old. And recently we have dealt with recurring strep throat due to his lowered immune system. Every doctor and specialist we take him to says the same thing, we have never seen a case of eczema this severe or no one is allergic to everything! All the doctors know how to do is treat the symptoms by prescribing creams and more steroids and antibiotics...

Your recommendation several months ago was right on target! My wife has had ulcerative colitis for 21 years. In that time she has had serious diarrhea from early morning until noon - could not stray. We have had many specialists try to do something (medication, alternative approaches) with no success. We could not leave the house for any reason.
Within two weeks after taking the Custom Probiotic 6 Blend she now has a life. Yes, she has some diarrhea now and then, but the problem has reduced dramatically. So I want to keep up the regimen we have been using (if it ain't broke, don't fix it) - even our doctor was impressed and signed a note recommending she stay on the Probiotics, which allows us to use our pre-tax medical savings account. 

She uses scoop at night and one in the morning.
 
By the way, we use your yoghurt starter also with a yogourmet maker, and that had helped some. So we will continue using the starter as well. We have some capsules of CP-1 for when we go on trips.

Thanks so much!  We made the yogurt this weekend, and it is the best yogurt ever! 
 
We'd been using Yogourmet, and it tasted delicious and my husband loved it and was getting lots of benefits from it, but I wanted to find something with out the "additives"--skim milk powder, sugar and citric acid (just a little of these, but we didn't want any).  Yogourmet was working so well for him, though, that he was a bit paranoid to change. 
 
We made 1 quart with your yogurt culture starter--used a little less than 1/4 scoop in raw goat's milk heated to about 101 and incubated for 24 hours, then in the fridge overnight.  He was crazy about it from the first sip!  Yours is so much better, both in taste and "yogurtness," we are totally thrilled!

Hi Harry,

My 18 year old autistic son and my 6 year old daughter with juvenille rheumatoid arthritis and uveitis both take your D-lactate Free probiotic formulation. Other probiotics made my son's eyes red and bloodshot, but my son has no negative reactions from your formula. When our daughter was diagnosed with an eye disease, I didn't chance using any other probiotic for her. She had no negative reactions from using the D-lactate free probiotic. We have taken our daughter to the emergency room because she was in pain, not from her arthritis, but from her constipation. With taking the probiotics 3x a day after meals, she has a regular bm every day, like clockwork, and very healthy looking. She has been taking your formula which we were using for her brother too, from October until February with regular bms daily. When we ran out of probiotics last week, the constipation came back. I made it a top priority to get our order in as soon as we could because she really needs your product. Thank you for making such a wonderful product.

Hi Harry,

I just wanted to let you know how your probiotics have changed my life. I have been taking the Custom Blend of six cultures for about 3 months now. The results are nothing short of miraculous. I had suffered from candida for many, many years. I had a severe kidney infection twenty five years ago and was placed on an IV of antibiotics for 2 weeks and then for the next 3 years took antibiotics everyday. Needless to say, yeast had overtaken my body. I have tried many prescribed medications as well as many, many over the counter remedies from the health food store including many different probiotics. Dear Harry,

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 1996. Over the years I tried a lot of natural remedies, including other probiotics, with no success.

In October, 2005, I started taking Custom Probiotics 6 strain powder - 3 adult scoops twice a day. Within days my symptoms began improving. In March, 2006, I cut my Asacol dosage in half and in August eliminated it entirely.

Today, one year later, I am totally free of all colitis symptoms, take no drugs, and am able to eat foods I haven't had for 10 years.

I tried other yogurt starters just to compare.  Quite simply - they did not compare at all.  They all seemed to have milk added among other things.  Not yours though.  Your Yogurt Starter is pure - no additives - pure!  I love that.  My yogurt tastes so clean and creamy.

  My son Nikolas is 5 yrs old and he has been diagnosed with PDD which is a form of autism.  He also has had severe eczema, so bad that to take a bath or a shower was extremely painful.  He had to wear bandages every day on his arms due to the broken skin from scratching.  He couldn't sleep due to the itching and pain he was in.  Nikolas was covered from head to toe in September with his eczema.  For some reason it was getting worse.  We tried every lotion and steroid cream available.  Nothing helped.  I took him to see a nutritionist who works with autistic children.  She recommended a diet free of dairy and gluten and also a high count probiotic. 
 
We immediately implemented the diet and I called Custom Probiotics and ordered the D-lactate free probiotics that was recommended for autistic children.  I received the shipment within 2 days and started him on 1 scoop in the morning and 1 scoop at night before bed.  Every 2 days I added a scoop in the morning and evening until he was on 8 scoops in the morning and 8 at night.  He did not seem to experience any ill effects of die-off.  I didn't realize it until later that I was using the adult scooper instead of the child's.  No wonder our supply diminished so rapidly!

The changes that took place in just 5 days were nothing short of a miracle!  His skin was calming down and his speech and attention were incredibly better.  Everyone who saw him after the 5 days of treatment were amazed.  People have commented that he is a new little boy and I absolutely agree.  We were sitting at the dinner table on the 5th day and for the 1st time ever Nikolas asked if he could share the day he had at school with us.  We were blown away my husband and I just looked at each other, we could not believe that he actually understood that this is what we did at dinner or that he could actually verbalize his own thoughts and experiences.  We sat there and never answered just tears welling up in our eyes.  Nikolas didn't wait for an answer he just started telling us what happened at school, who said what, where they went, every little detail of the day.  For anyone with an autistic child you can understand my excitement about what has happened.  One day we have a little boy who barely talks and is hard to understand, who doesn't seem to participate in the things that are happening around him and in 5 days we have a new little boy who is actually here with us and not in his own world! 
 
Today as I write his skin is milky white with only traces of his eczema left, I'm sure it will take a while for the scars to heal but thank God no new outbreaks.  He is on 2 adult scoops in the morning and 2 at night.  We truly thank God for you Harry and all that you have done,  we will not be able to be without Custom Probiotics again.....may God grant you many, many, many years.

WOW!! I am so excited to tell you that your product has changed my life. Growing up I had kidney problems and infections in which my doctor had me on antibiotics everyday for 7 years straight. I am 33 years old and I have had candida for as long as I can remember and the last year and a half Ihave had colitis. I have only been taking your Adult CP1 for two months and I have no more bleeding, no more mucus and no more spasms. Only those who have suffered with colitis can understand the desperation one will go to find a cure for them when conventional medicine does not work. My medical doctor wanted to put me on steroids and I had enough smart to know that would only make things worse plus make me gain weight. If I had taken the steroids I believe that would have grown the existing candida and make me even more miserable. I have tried other probiotics and changing my diet but I could not understand why nothing was working. Now I know why the dosage was not high enough to restore my health back. The former products of probiotics was only 1 billion in each pill that means that I would have to take about 400 pills a day to equal the 6 pills a day I was taking with your product.

After years of suffering off and on with irritable bowel syndrome, I became very ill in March of 1999 and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Initially, I was very sick with cramping, bleeding, no appetite and frightening weight loss. Although symptoms would improve gradually throughout the summer and fall, it seemed like I would have another flare each year, somewhere between November and March.
 
Since my diagnosis, I have seen six different gastro doctors and have been treated with steroids and immunosuppresant drugs that probably did more harm than good. I took it upon myself to research my condition and learn as much as possible. I’ve tried countless different supplements and probiotics as well as dietary modifications.
 
Through a lot of trial and error, I believe I’ve found the combination that works for me, and Custom Probiotics’ six strain powdered probiotic blend is a key element. I have tried many different brands, but this is the only probiotic that provided obvious improvement. I told you Harry, if I made it through my “danger zone” flare-free this year, I would write this testimonial at the end of March. I have been feeling much better for many months, but I wanted to be certain I could sustain this state of health.
 
I take one scoop of the powdered blend three times a day. I also take l-glutamine which is one of the few supplements I’ve tried that helped immensely. Other supplements include fish oil caps, Freeda vitamins and Udo’s oil. My dietary modifications include avoiding dairy and all grains, although I cheat occasionally. I also take a digestive enzyme that Harry recommended.
 
I feel better now than I did before I was diagnosed with UC. At my sickest, I weighed about 90 pounds, although 105 was “normal” for me prior to becoming ill. Currently, I’m on a heavy weight lifting program and my weight is now up to an all-time high of 115, which is a healthy weight for my height.
 
Friends and family are amazed at my transformation. I’m amazed. I feel great, and I can go anywhere, do anything, and not worry about whether or not a restroom is close by. Harry, I thank you for your excellent products as well as your support and wisdom.

Your product has literally saved my life.  Anyone who has suffered from Crohn's can tell you, the pain is unbearable.  I was at the end of my rope. The conventional medicines had not worked, nor had they stopped the bloody diarrhea, which had gotten so frequent that I was literally too weak to do anything. In July, 2003 I was awaiting my second Remicade infusion when I came across your web site.  I had nothing to lose, so I tried your Adult Formula CP-1.  I began with four capsules three times/day and noticed an improvement in two days, yet I still suffered from cramping and bloody diarrhea, yet milder.  You then sent me the powder form , which I mixed one scoop with water three times per day and THE NEXT DAY THE PAIN, THE DIARRHEA AND THE BLOOD were gone.  About a week of being on the powder form, and feeling better than I had felt in a year, my doctor performed a sigmoidoscopy and  said "this is not the same colon, it's gone". 
 
I have now been off all Cohn's medicine (Colozal, Pentasa, Entecort) since November 26, 2003 and have never felt better. My doctor has no other explanation for my recovery, it has to be the probiotics.

I just wanted to write to thank you again. I've been ordering Acidophilus powder from you for over a year now because I thought I was too sensitive for anything else. (I cannot tolerate the microcellulose crystalline in your capsules). But my digestion has not been 100% for many months and I have not been able to pinpoint the cause. With my last order, you sent me two free samples to test: one for the small intestine and one for the large intestine. Since starting the L. Rhamnosus/L. Lactis/L. Plantarum blend, my digestion improved. My bowel movements are well-formed and very regular, consistently.
 
Sorry for the graphics but as you know, for someone suffering for years with the symptoms of mercury poisoning, Crohn's Disease and systemic candida, this is somewhat of a miracle. I can't tell you how happy I am. We sometimes forget to experiment once we've had a negative reaction to something. I am thankful for the people like you out there who remind us to remain open, and who are willing to send a free sample. I would never have risked the extra money to test out something unknown.

I have been on the Zone diet for the last 5 months and have done quite well with that. It pretty effectively controls my indigestion and heart burn. But during the holidays I have cheated some.  Yet with your product for the last couple of months I haven't experienced any heart burn or loose stools. And gas has been at a minimum. Even when I eat the horrible combination of pizza and chocolate in the evening. So I am very happy with the results. In fact I feel terrific. I am taking the ADULT FORMULA CP-1. 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

When I first started taking the probiotics I was in the middle of a major Ulcerative Colitis flare with bleeding and diarrhea many times a day. Nothing seemed to be helping. I had lost 20 pounds and the prednisone was no longer working for me. I was miserable. The day I started taking Harry's Custom Probiotics my bleeding stopped and things gradually started improving. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 1998 and the doctors wanted to do surgery cause my Colitis was very severe. I said no to surgery and gave up on Western medicine and doctors. I have been doing the SCD diet.

Daniel had been waging an all out war on Candida for 2 months.  He was reacting less to food but was also absorbing less and becoming progressively more tired and diarrhetic - although different from IBD diarrhea according to him.  The probiotics he had been taking weren't beneficial in any way he could see.  He started Custom 2 weeks ago and suffered 3 days of massive headaches, exhaustion, brain fog and general aches and pains like the flu.   After that, the headaches went away and his head cleared totally.  He wrote to tell us that he could do Math again as his brain was able to do sequential thinking for the first time since getting sick.  Weird eh?  Next he started feeling so energetic that he no longer needed naps in the day and was even able to pull a few all-nighters for mid-terms.  His digestion and the diarrhea improved although his stool are still not totally formed and there's still occasional partially digested food.  Even more fantastic is that he called last night to talk about philosophy and to hear his passion and exuberance was like meeting our son again after a year's absence.  My mind kept saying: "Yes, this is what all the hard work's been about".

Even though I have had another flare, we are pretty sure it was from a cold I had at the time.  Basically I do thank g-d feel better and am appreciative that there is at least one probiotic that is SCD legal and obviously is of a very high standard.

Dear Harry,

I thought that I should write to you to let you know of my progress  with respect to my crohns colitis and your  Probiotics. In a couple of words I can say that they are "extremely effective". There is no doubt in my mind that they can, for me, effectively stop blood or mucus in the stool within 1-2 days of taking them. I use 3 spoonfuls of the ultrapotency powder formulation every morning about  1/2 hour before breakfast. I find the powder slightly more effective than the capsules although not as "palatable".  I can dissolve the powder better in a glass of water than with the capsules and therefore I believe will aid the distribution of the probiotics within the gut lining much more evenly. Although I was taking the capsules from March 02 I have been using the powder since September 02 and have not looked back.

Of course although the probiotics and the SCD controlled the blood and mucus I still foun d  that I could have 2-3 movements a day, although not as loose as before, along with occasional slight cramps. On your recommendation Harry, in October '02 I started using the  Inflazyme Forte enzyme coated formulation tablets as well, which contain among other things, Bromelain, which is from pineapple extract and is acknowledged to be a potent antiinflammatory substance. I can honestly say that again within 2-3 days I noticed a significant improvement in my movements and now since October I have effectively returned to normal. I take 2 tablets just before a meal three times a day. I have no cramping or any other digestive problems to report.  Being a surgeon myself and knowing of the possible side effects of using medications such as Asacol and prednisone I was very keen to tackle my Crohns through alternative means which I have now done successfully thanks to you Harry! I wanted to wait at least three to four months before contacting you to see if my remis sion could be sustained, which it has. I am certain that my remission is not by coincidence as I have experimented  by stopping the  above treatments intermittently to see what happens and almost always I noted my symptoms come back. However within 1-2 days of resuming the treatments my symptoms stopped. As a surgeon I know the body is a great healer provided we help it along. Your treatments, along with Elaine Gottschall's Specific Carbohydrate Diet, work naturally and effectively. There is as you know an increasing body of research and literature which has being published in the last 2 years to support this.  I am sure that my colleagues within the medical community will all at some point in the future acknowledge that illnesses such as inflammatory bowel disease can and should be treated without resorting to proprietary medicines which can be, and are, associated with serious side effects. Unfortunately the medical community is similar to an oil tanker that needs to change course. It takes a lot of time!
