Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why are we called Custom Probiotics?

A. We can make a custom blend using any of the single strains carried on our website and add them to one of our formulations.

Q. What are probiotics and how do they work?

A. Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms that help support digestive and microbial balance. Antibiotics, infection, diet, and stress can negatively affect intestinal microflora. Learn more about probiotics.

Q. Do your products contain dairy or gluten?

A. Our products are dairy and casein free, hypoallergenic, and do not contain artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, sugar, gluten, soy, or FOS.

Q. Should I follow a certain diet while taking probiotics?

A. Diet needs vary by individual. The original page recommends a natural-food diet with vegetables, fiber, and limited refined sugar for customers with digestive concerns.

Q. What are CFU’s?

A. Colony Forming Units. It is the bacterial count used to describe probiotic potency.

Q. How do I know I’m getting the specified amount of CFU’s?

A. We use independent laboratory testing to verify bacterial count. The count stated on the label is the potency specified for the product’s expiration date.

Q. What is a good dosage?

A. Dosage varies from person to person. Start with a low amount and increase gradually according to your response and the guidance on our Dosage Suggestions page.

Q. How do I choose between 50 grams and 100 grams?

A. It depends on the dosage you use and how quickly you expect to finish the product. The 100-gram size generally provides a lower cost per gram.

Q. What time of day should I take probiotics?

A. Probiotics are generally taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and/or at bedtime. If taking antibiotics, the original page recommends a 2-hour separation.

Q. How long will a 50-gram or 100-gram powder last?

A. Duration depends on the scoop size and daily dosage. The original page estimates approximately two months for 50 grams and four months for 100 grams when using one adult scoop per day.

Container Size Daily Use Approximate Duration
100 grams1 adult scoop/day4 months
100 grams2 adult scoops/dayApproximately 2 months
50 grams1 adult scoop/day2 months
50 grams2 adult scoops/dayApproximately 1 month

Q. Why do some people experience a “die-off” reaction?

A. Some individuals report temporary digestive changes when beginning probiotics. Increasing the dosage gradually may improve tolerance.

Q. What happens if probiotics stay out of the refrigerator for a few days?

A. Our probiotics can travel for 2–3 weeks without refrigeration with minimal potency loss. Refrigeration is still recommended for optimum long-term potency.

Q. Why aren’t Custom Probiotics enteric coated?
