Dosage and Storage Tips

Adults

Start with one adult scoop, 0.8 gram / 224 billion CFU’s, of the probiotic powder first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, approximately 30 minutes before eating. Dissolve the powder in a glass of dechlorinated water and drink it. Do this once a day only. Stay at this dosage for about 3–5 days.

If you are not happy with the results, raise the dosage to two scoops a day, one in the morning and one at bedtime. After one week, go to three scoops a day if you still are not getting the expected results. The highest dosage we recommend is four adult scoops a day. You can always lower the dosage or stop taking probiotics for a few days. You may also visit our Dosage Suggestions section for more information.

Children

Start with one baby scoop, 0.1 gram / 25 billion CFU’s, of the probiotic powder first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Dissolve the powder in a glass of water and drink it. Stay at this dosage for about 3–5 days.

Custom Probiotics adult and baby scoops

If your child is not getting the expected results, raise the dosage to one scoop in the morning and one scoop at bedtime. Stay at this dosage for one week. If you are still not happy with the results, go up to two scoops in the morning and two scoops at bedtime. You can always lower the dosage or stop taking probiotics for a few days.

Every digestive system is unique like a fingerprint. You need to find the dosage that best suits you or your child. A gradual increase in dosage is a good way to find the optimum dosage.

Storage

Our probiotic supplements are temperature stable for 2–3 weeks without refrigeration. We have done 2-year temperature stability testing on our probiotics. We overdesign our probiotics so that the loss will not affect the potency indicated on the label. One can travel with our probiotics for 2–3 weeks without refrigeration. It is best, however, to keep probiotics refrigerated for optimum potency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why are we called Custom Probiotics?

A. We can make a custom blend of any of the single strains that we carry on the website to be added to any of our formulations.

Q. What are probiotics and how do they work?

A. According to the currently adopted definition by FAO/WHO, probiotics are “Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host.” For more information, click here. Probiotics are the good bacteria that inhabit the digestive system naturally. Antibiotics, infection, poor diet, and stress negatively affect the intestinal microflora. The proper dosage of probiotics can help normalize the flora in the digestive system and support digestive and immune response.

Q. Do your products contain any dairy or gluten?

A. All of our products are dairy and casein free, hypoallergenic, and do not contain artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, sugar, gluten, soy, or FOS. They do not utilize milk, milk derivatives, galacto oligosaccharides (GOS), or inulin as added ingredients in the fermentation media.

Q. Should I follow a certain diet while taking probiotics?

A. A lot of our clients have Candida, autism, food allergies, and other digestive issues. Therefore, it is best to use a sugar-free and natural-food diet with plenty of vegetables, fiber, and some fish and chicken. Proper diet and nutrition are very important.

Q. What are CFU’s?

A. Colony Forming Units. It is the bacterial count of probiotics.

Q. How do I know I’m getting the specified amount of CFU’s?

A. We do independent lab testing on our probiotics to verify the bacterial count at the time of sale. Although the count is higher at the time of production, the count on the label is the count at the time of expiration, which is one year from the date of manufacture.

Q. What is a good dosage?

A. Dosage varies from person to person based on the severity of their situation. Dosages may vary from 25 billion CFU’s per day up to 800 billion CFU’s per day. Many customers need a higher potency to achieve their desired results.

Q. How would I know whether to get 50 grams or 100 grams?

A. It depends on how much you need and how quickly you will go through it. The 100-gram size is more cost effective. If one uses one adult scoop per day, 100 grams will last approximately four months.

Q. What time of day should I take probiotics? Can I take them with medications, vitamins, or antibiotics?

A. Probiotics are best taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and/or at bedtime. A gap of 30–45 minutes before or after a meal is also recommended. If you are taking antibiotics, you should have a 2-hour gap before or after taking the probiotics.

Q. What is the maximum amount of capsules or scoops I can take a day?

A. Dosage varies from person to person. For Adult Formula CP-1, eight capsules is the maximum amount stated in the original guidance. For powders, the stated maximum is four adult scoops per day.

Q. How long will a 50-gram or 100-gram powder last me?

A. Fifty grams is equivalent to approximately 60 adult scoops. Each adult scoop measures 0.8 gram. If you take one adult scoop per day, 50 grams will last approximately two months while 100 grams will last approximately four months. A baby scoop measures 0.1 gram, and eight baby scoops are equivalent to one adult scoop.

Q. At what age can an infant or child take probiotics?

A. Based on the original page guidance, the infant dosage may be given starting at six months and up to age three.

Q. How much probiotics can an infant take?

A. We supply a baby scoop that measures 0.1 gram, equivalent to approximately 20–25 billion CFU’s. The original page guidance states that infants may take from half a baby scoop to two baby scoops.

Q. Why do some people get a “die-off” reaction?

A. A “die-off” reaction may occur as the ingested probiotic bacteria interact with existing microorganisms in the digestive system. That is why our dosage protocol recommends increasing the dosage gradually.

Q. What happens if the probiotics stay out of the refrigerator for a few days?

A. The loss is very minimal. We have done 2-year temperature stability testing. We overdesign our probiotics so that the loss will not affect the potency indicated on the label. One can travel with our probiotics for 2–3 weeks without refrigeration. It is best, however, to keep probiotics refrigerated for optimum potency.

Q. Why aren’t Custom Probiotics enteric coated?

A. Our strains are pre-selected for excellent acid and bile tolerance and for their capacity to survive intestinal transit. The original page explains that enteric coating has not been shown to be necessary for achieving efficacy with these formulations.

Q. Do probiotics help with parasites?

A. The original page advises bringing parasites under control first and then using probiotics to support the digestive system. Speak with a qualified healthcare professional for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
